if i can help it, my daily breakfast always consists of some type of grain, greek yogurt, and fruit. my so-called "spontaneity"results from the variety of grain or fruit i choose (note: i do not compromise on yogurt...original. greek. yogurt.).
toast with almond butter, a grapefruit, greek yogurt. bran with almond milk, berries, greek yogurt. oatmeal, a pear, greek yogurt.
within this paradigm lies my favorite: granola, a banana, greek yogurt. now when it comes to granola, i am a snob. i've never been one to buy it from stores because of the excessive amount of added this or added that. and frankly, i've never met a packaged granola that consisted of a mix that i like. so instead, when finances allow, i buy house-made granola from huckleberry, le pain quotidien, or tavern. all different, but each fresh, proportioned well, and with a mixture of ingredients i can't get enough of.
coming back from costa rica with a monstrous craving for granola, i decided to make my own. thanks to molly wizenberg of orangette and her similar affinity for the pleasures of granola, i was set with a template from which to begin my project.
the goods
oven on and mixing bowls out, i quickly took care of my absurd appetite for homemade goodness.
fresh out of the oven
crispy, wholesome, and accented with the warmth of cinnamon and tartness of dried cherries, it was just what the doctor ordered. if i remember correctly, the first words out of my mouth after taking the first bite...damn, this is good! ever so satisfied, i have a feeling this is only the beginning of my cereal-making days.
