practicing stillness

i long to practice stillness. to take deep, meaningful breaths. to lose touch with everything i try to control, and just be.

it just so happened that these sentiments were eloquently written in a recent new york times article: The Joy of Quiet.

this excerpt particularly spoke to me:

We have more and more ways to communicate, as Thoreau noted, but less and less to say. Partly because we are so busy communicating. And - as he might also have said - we're rushing to meet so many deadlines that we hardly register that what we need most are lifelines.

perhaps this is the year to minimize. relinquish control. let things happen. and in so doing, embrace the stillness all around.
